Smoky Quartz is a transparent variety of quartz in dark brown-grey colour, smoky we could say since that is where it got its name. Its colour is due to free silicon ions, created by exposure to radiation. It is usually mined in Brazil, the United States, and Switzerland. The very dark-colored grade of capnia is called morion.
