Peridot is the gem variety of olivine. It has a hardness of 6.5 – 7 and a specific gravity of 3.8. Its name is probably derived from the Persian word “pharidat”, which means gemstone. The peridot was known since ancient times. The Romans knew and used the peridot, which they called “evening emerald”. It is one of the few gems that appear consistently with a single color. The greater the iron content the more intense its pigmentation.

Topaz is a fluorine aluminium silicate that comes in transparent blue, white, yellow or green color. It is believed to soothe energetic people and recharge sluggish ones. It is said to relieve nervous breakdowns, exhaustion and stress. In the Bible it is identified with the second tribe of Israel, Reuben. In the book of Revelation, it is the ninth stone of the New Jerusalem.

The Beryl is not particularly well known to the general public. But the various gemstones that make up the beryl family are well-known and sought after for jewellery making.

Morganite is pinkish-purple in colour due to the presence of magnesium oxides.
