Ebony is a kind of precious wood that is typically black or dark brown. It is solid, hard and heavy. Ebony is used to manufacture musical instruments and decorative objects. It usually comes from trees of the Diospyros genus, but the name ebony is also used to refer to other heavy wood of black colour. Ebony is so heavy that it sinks in fresh water.
Cracks and fracture surfaces are a phenomenon of natural origin that is created in wood and should in no way be associated with wear and tear.
