Amazonite is a usually opaque, greenish-blue mineral. It took its name from the Amazon River where it was first found in 1850. Its copper content determines its colour, which varies from turquoise, blue, blue or pinkish-yellow. Today amazonite is found in the Ural Mountains in Russia, Colorado and Virginia, Australia and South Africa.
